Planning A Cross-Country Move? Follow These 4 Tips

Blog

It can feel exciting as you get ready to make a cross-country move to a brand new city. Unfortunately, it can also be very stressful when you are not prepared for it. Organization is the key to making the move go smoothly. Follow these 4 tips to have a successful move.

Reach Out To Moving Companies Far In Advance

It is never too early to get in touch with a moving company for your long distance move. By getting several quotes from different companies, you can make an informed decision about who to go with rather than a quick decision.

When comparing estimates, keep in mind that they are only estimates. While one mover could have a higher cost overall, it may be from them estimating more hours to get the job done. Always look at the size of the crews and the average cost per hour of labor when comparing companies.

De-clutter Your Home

It does not make sense to take things with you that you do not need anymore. That is why now is the time to de-clutter. Go through drawers and closets, and set aside things that you want to throw away or donate. By minimizing the things that you will be taking with you, it can lower your moving costs and make unpacking a breeze.

Start Packing Early

With so many things in your home that you do not use on a daily basis, it means that you can start packing up your belongings as soon as you find out you are moving. After you have de-cluttered, start packing up the things that you have stored away. This includes seasonal items, decorations, off-season clothing, and anything else you feel that you will not need until you move to your new home.

Make An Inventory

It is going to be a while until you unpack everything at your new home, and there will come a time when you need to find something in a hurry. It helps to make a basic inventory to identify where things are.

For those items that you pack up early, you can write the contents of each box in an organized spreadsheet on your computer. Assign each box a number, and you will be able to easily track down anything without needing to go through every single box.

I was tired and angry, until he explained that he would be in charge of this next move and do a lot of the hard work. He also explained what benefits the move would come along with, which helped to calm me down. This blog is all about how I was able to stay calm during my many moves and the tips that have helped me along the way.
