Benefits Of Storing Some Stuff While You Move

Blog

Residential storage services have many great uses when you're planning to move to a new town. Here are some ways that you can use a storage facility to help with your move.

Give You Security in Renting a Smaller Truck

If you need to rent a truck for your move, you may be tempted to rent a larger truck. You might commit to too many movers with the fear that you won't be able to get the job done in the allotted time. A storage unit can give you security in downsizing your moving costs. If not everything fits or you don't have enough movers to meet your time crunch, you can simply store some stuff and pick it up later.

Help You Let Go of Items

Storage units can also be a good way to cut down on your possessions without having to tear off the band-aid, so to speak. Decide what stuff you would like to leave behind, and instead put it in a storage unit for a few months. That way, you'll have the opportunity to change your mind on throwing away the items if you find that you miss them.

Help You Bring Only What You Need

On the flip side, storing some items will help you figure out which ones you actually need. You can be conservative at first about moving your stuff to the new place. Then, keep a list of all of the stuff that you need in the next few months. You can go back and retrieve these items from your storage unit and get rid of the rest.

Allow You to Spread Out Costs

Storage can also be a good strategy for spreading out the costs of your move. The cost of a storage unit can be much lower at first than getting a large truck with many movers, especially if you take advantage of first-month discounts with your storage facility. You can make the trips more gradually and spread out the cost over a few months.

See You Through Temporary Housing

If you only have temporary housing at your destination, you may not want to carry around all of your stuff while you look for a permanent spot. You may need to move from place to place before you settle into a lease. In these cases, self storage units can be invaluable for keeping your stuff safe while you look for a new home to put it in.

Keeping Your Zen During Your Next Move

When my husband announced that we would be moving again for his job, I couldn't help but burst into tears. We had already moved three times in the past year and a half, and it was getting hard to make new friends. I was tired and angry, until he explained that he would be in charge of this next move and do a lot of the hard work. He also explained what benefits the move would come along with, which helped to calm me down. This blog is all about how I was able to stay calm during my many moves and the tips that have helped me along the way.
